    CALL FOR PAPERS [Deadline Extended till January 31, 2019]: 17th Igbo Studies Association Annual International Conference

    Theme: Akụ ruo ụlọ, O kwuo onye kpatara ya: Call for a Return to Igboland

    The Igbo Studies Association (ISA) specially invites scholars, students and professionals in Nigeria and in the diaspora, whose research interests cover any of the areas of Igbo studies, to submit their abstracts for its 17th Annual International Conference, to be held at the Dominican University, River Forest, Illinois, USA, on May 9-11, 2019.

    This year’s conference theme is Akụ ruo ụlọ, O kwuo onye kpatara ya! This means that one brings laurels unto oneself by helping to develop one’s original homeland with wealth acquired and repatriated from abroad.

    The 17th Annual International Conference will provide opportunities for an interdisciplinary dialogue on topics such as strategies for Igbo political prominence or the lack thereof in the current dispensation, what it means to be Igbo both in Nigeria and the diaspora in a more and more globalized and integrated world, the responsibilities of the Igbo diaspora in protecting Igbo collective interests in both Nigeria and abroad, advancing the political, economic and social development of the Igboland, as well as resilience, endurance and survival of the Igbo as a people.

    Please submit an abstract of 250-300 words focusing on topics including (but not limited to) the following subject areas:

    GUIDELINES FOR SUBMITTING AN ABSTRACT

    An abstract of 250-300 words, prepared in MS-Word, must be submitted online through the ISA website. Please note that all abstracts that have not been prepared according to the submission template will be rejected automatically. The abstract should include the title of your proposed paper, poster, panel or round-table, your motivation for proposing the work, thesis or hypothesis, theoretical framework, references, and projected conclusions. It should also include your names in full, current status and institutional affiliation, mailing address, phone number and e-mail address.

    ACCEPTANCE AND FEES

    If your abstract is accepted, you will be notified in writing by the ISA Conference Committee with information on how to pay a non-refundable membership fee of $50.00 (paid in advance), and later a conference registration fee that will permit you to present your paper at the conference.

    DEADLINES AND NOTIFICATION

    • The deadline for abstract submission has been extended till January 31, 2019.
    • The completed paper is due by April 30, 2019, and you may write in Igbo or English.
    • Selected papers will be considered for publication in a post-conference edited volume.
